Full Description
NC45NE 18 4555 5956.
At NC 4555 5956, built up on a saddle within a minor deserted settlement (NC45NE 26) are the remains of a hut circle overgrown with heather and partially overlaid by an early modern, squarish enclosure. The hut measures about 9.5m in diameter within a wall spread to 2.5m wide and 0.3m high where visible; there are one or two large blocks which may be inner facing stones and in the NE, a line of three outer retaining slabs are visible. The position of the entrance is uncertain. A rectilinear enclosure attached to the W side of the hut is probably contemporary with the later work.
There is no trace of a field system associated with the hut.
Surveyed at 1:10,000.
Visited by OS (N K B) 25 October 1978.
