A farmstead at Achreregan More.

A longhouse standing to 1.7m. Adjacent is a longhouse footing and other rectangular footings which are assumed to pre-date the longhouse. In the vicinity are low enclosure walls and traces of rig and furrow.

Longhouse, recorded by R Mercer in 1982 during a survey undertaken by the University of Edinburgh, one of several over a number of years in Caithness: Site FOR 149: Longhouse. Dimensions: 13m x 6m. Height: 0.50m. Rectangular structure with an internal division 9m from the S end. Orientation: N-S. Attached to the N end, to the W, is an extension 5m x 4m to form an L-shape. Walls are 1m wide. ND 028616. <1>

A farmstead comprising four unroofed buildings, two of which are long buildings of three compartments, is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet x). Two unroofed buildings are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1987).

The farmstead is visible in LiDAR data gathered by AOC Archaeology in 2011 as part of the mitigation for the visual impact on the archaeological landscape associated with the proposed Baillie Hill windfarm, Caithness. An area of rig and furrow is visible immediately to the south. <2>
