Full Description

An amorphous level stone platform, roughly circular in shape, abutting a stone mound. It is made up of small stones, less than 20cm in size. A small stream runs beneath it and emerges on the east side. There are two circular depressions, 2m from the east edge, 1.75 m apart and 1m in diameter. The platform measures 11.5m NE/SW by 13.40m NW/SE at north end. A linear depression, 3.95m long, on the N side, demarcates a projection extending to the north and ending in a single, large stone. The projection measures 5.85m long by 3m wide.
See sketch in Ass. Docs.
Information from Pat Allan, 6/10/95

A survey of the archaeological and historic features was undertaken within Abernethy Forest Reserve for the RSPB in 1995.

A roughly circular, level stone platform was found here, abutting a possible prehistoric stone mound to the south. The stones of the make-up are small, less than 0.2m in diameter. There are two shallow circular depressions 2m from the eastern edge, lm in diameter, and 1.75m apart. There is also a linear depression on the north side, marking the south end of a projection off the main circle. This depression is 3.95m in length and runs E/W. The feature is 11.5 NE/SW and 13.4m NW/SE. The projection of the north end is 5.85m long, 3m wide and oriented due (magnetic) north.
The projection comprises the same small rounded stones with the exception of the end stone which is a large angular schist boulder. Although abutting the platform this feature is offset 2m to the east and it is not possible to determine the relationship of the two without further investigation. A small watercourse runs beneath the platform and emerges on the eastern side of the junction between the two features. An interpretation of this feature is difficult, without further work, but it is possibly of prehistoric origin. <1>
