Full Description
The Caledonian (former Bank of Scotland) - 9 & 11 High Street, Inverness.
The building was designed as the head office of the Caledonian Bank (established in Inverness in 1838) by architects Mackenzie and Mathews in 1847-8, with internal alterations by E Carruthers-Ballantyne & Taylor in 1925. The Caledonian Bank merged with the Bank of Scotland in 1907. It was listed at Category A under that name in 1971.
In 2006 the building was sold and converted to use as a Smith & Jones public house. It was renamed 'The Caledonian' following acquisition by Stonegate Pub Company in 2014.
A conservation and design statement by Simpson & Brown Architects was submitted to the planning authority in 2016 in support of a Listed Building Consent application for repair work to the existing stonework. <1>
