Full Description
A burnt Mound at Allt Torigil.
At ND 0322 5881, situated adjacent to the Allt Torigil, is a burnt mound, discovered by the previous field OS investigator (R D) 9 November 1964. It is a turf-covered, oval mound measuring 12.5m E-W by 5.5m transversely and 1.3m high. Pot boilers protrude from the W side. The mound is probably associated with the hut circles to the N (ND05NW 14).
Surveyed at 1:10,000. Visited by OS (J B) 28 July 1981.
The burnt mound is visible in LiDAR data gathered by AOC Archaeology in 2011 as part of the mitigation for the visual impact on the archaeological landscape associated with the proposed Baillie Hill windfarm, Caithness. However, it was not identified in the initial data analysis and therefore not recorded/listed in the project report. <1>
GIS spatial data amended in 2020.
