Full Description
West Caithness Local Plan, May 1987: P60/4.19. Environmental Improvements - Former Quarries.
Recommendations: The Scottish Development Agency should consider measures to reduce the environmental effects of former slate quarries <1>.
This quarry is drawn on the first edition 25" OS map c.1874. The quarry is still in active use (despite the associated Windmill being marked as 'Old Windmill') and by the second edition 25" OS map c.1905 it has greatly expanded into the area of the old windmill. The 2nd edition map annotates the quarry as 'Upper Castletown Quarry' <2>.
