Full Description

Two unroofed structures are depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Sutherland 1878, sheet xiv), indicating what may be two shieling-huts. However the current edition of the OS 1:10,000 map (1988) annotated the structure to the S as a sheepfold while the structure to the N is not marked.

Although only the northernmost of the two unroofed structures can be identified in vertical aerial photographs, where it appears a three-roomed building. It is possible that the central 'room' is a later insertion into an older building or the other two rooms were later additions since the other two rooms appear to be of less substantial construction. Whatever the origin, the areas of both of the buildings recorded on the OS 1st Edition map are surrounded by rig cultivation traces bounded by traces of an enclosure dyke and watecourses. The circular sheepfold in the sourhern part of the enclosure first appears on the OS 2nd Edition map. <1> <2>
