Full Description

Shinness Steading

This steading is square in plan with a projecting water-powered threshing barn with silage pit beneath. There is a covered cattle court, cow byres, stables and a turnip house. The steading was designed in order that all elements of the complex could be reached under cover. The buildings were in good repair and still in agricultural use on the date of survey.
Visited by RCAHMS (GJD), July 1994, April/ May 1995; see NMRS MS 744/102.
