Full Description

Longhouse farm (ND 1444 5310), comprising;
A: Longhouse. Dimensions: 13 x 4m. Rectangular structure with one internal division. Orientation NW-SE.
B: Longhouse. Dimensions: 7 x 5m. Rectangular structure with an annexe 2 x 2.5m, situated 31m SE of A. Orientation E-W.
C: Enclosure/structure. Dimensions: 9 x 4.5m Rectangular structure 2m S of B. Orientation E-W.

What may be a farmstead comprising two unroofed buildings is shown on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876, sheet xxii) and on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1963).

2 unroofed buildings were shown here in both the 1872 and 1905 OS surveys and called Achlachan.. One building is shown on the current OS map. Neither building could be positively identified on the ground, though the position of one was inferred from a patch of common rush some 4m square. An ill-defined field boundary lies to the south. <1>
