Full Description

A post-medieval settlement at Westgarty Burn, recorded during survey work by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 1994 in advance of a proposed windfarm. Work revealed the remains of at least four rectangular stone-walled structures, the largest measuring 13.5m by 2.5m. Lack of stone tumble suggested the buildings were originally turf walled, the surviving stones merely being footings. All the buildings were obscured by a dense growth of heather. <1> <2>
