Full Description

ND04SE 16 070 413

A farmstead comprising four unroofed buildings, one of which is a long building with an attached horse-gang, and an enclosure is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1876, sheet xxvii) and on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1962).
Information from RCAHMS (SAH) 18 December 1995

The site was visited and photographed by D Glass in June 2012. He described the site as:
"Two longhouses are aligned east-west on the eastern slope of a ridge. The north longhouse is 24 metres long and 5 metres wide. The south longhouse is 20 metres long and 5 metres wide. The buildings are parallel to each other and seperated by a gap of 5 metres. Each building is partitioned into two compartments. The tumbled walls of both buildings are up to one metre in height.
25 metres south of the south longhouse there are the less well preserved remains of two smaller buildings which are built into the slope. There are the remains of a corn-drying kiln at the west end of the southermost building.
On the crest of the ridge immediately west of the north longhouse there are the indistinct, grassed-over, remains of a building or enclosure.
A circular sheep stell 8.8 metres in diameter is situated at the north west corner of the north longhouse. The stell appears to overlie part of the aforementioned grassed-over building or enclosure and is likely to be of later date." <1>
