Full Description
A hut circle near Ben Griam Beg. See MHG63814 for the field system.
This hut-circle is situated at about 250m OD on the lower slopes of Ben Griam Beg, about 1.4km SE of the summit and 1.2km WNW of Greamachary farmhouse. It measures 13m ENE-WSW by 10m transversely within a stony bank 1m high and spread to 1.5m in thickness, within which occasional earthfast boulders are visible, possibly part of an inner face. The wall is only well defined on the NNE (uphill) side where it has been set into the slope; on the SSE side it has entirely fallen away.
To the NW of the hut-circle there is an area of cleared ground, grass-grown in contrast to the heather moor around it. It covers an area of about 4ha, and across it there are scattered a number of grassed-over small cairns measuring up to 4m in diameter. The SE edge of this cleared area is marked by a lynchet running along the contour immediately above the hut-circle.
