Full Description
Site of a summerhouse erected by the Minister of Kilmorack Church to view the Kilmorack Falls.
Now demolished. New dam on the site.
RCHAMS
The building is shown in a painting by Thomas Allom, engraved by E Benjamin for William Beattie's 'Scotland Illustrated' publlshed in 1838. It appears as a circular or perhaps a hexagonal open structure with a pointed roof topped by what appears to be a finial. Allom's and Benjamin's illustration was also used in a french publication at the time. <1> <2>
It is shown on the OS 1st Edition 25 inch map at this location. <3>
The dam and hydroelectric power station are located to the southeast, so its construction is unlikely to have directly impacted the site of the summerhouse.
