The submarine U297 was depth-charged and sunk by HM ships LOCH INCH and GOODALL.
Surveying Details

The wreck's position is given as 58 44 00N, 004 29 00W, approximately.
11 January 1985. The wreck was examined on 28 July 1984 at 58 48 25N, 004 35 18W - obtained using syledis or decca (n scot) red h 19.1, green a 35.6, purple c 71.1. The least echo sounder depth was 63 in a general depth of 69 metres. No scouring was observed. The side scan sonar indicated a height of 6 metres, and length of 60 metres (168 feet). The wreck is lying with its keel orientated 045/225 degrees.
