HM trawler MARSONA was mined.

Surveying Details

1 January 1951. The wreck is reported at 57 42 26N, 003 54 57W at a depth of 13.1 metres.
Report by Northern Lighthouse Board.

12 June 1974. The wreck was found as a partly buried object at 57 40 31N 003 55 03W during a decca position controlled survey using side scan sonar (about 185 metres off the charted position).

11 March 1976. The wreck's position was fixed by decca (n.scot)red i 11.10 green a 38.45 purple a 70.88(uncorr) and hi-fix Moray Firth chain(uncorr)patt i 122.50 patt ii 99.73. The position quoted is 57 40 31N, 003 55 03W. The site was close sounded. The least echosounder depth obtained was 15.0 metres in a general depth of 15.8 metres. A scour to the water depth of 17 metres was also observed on the echosounder.

2 October 1980. The site was located by side scan sonar in two sections, both are scattered over the seabed and about 100 mtrs apart in NW/SE direction. The northern section is at 57 40 27N, 003 55 02W (NGR eastings 285660, northings 866520). The least depth was 13.9 metres. The southern section was 57 40 25N, 003 54 59W (NGR eastings 285718, northings 866440). The least depth was 14.6 metres.
