Full Description

An area of rig cultivation, running ENE from the road for 50m towards a slight natural terrace, was noted by J Wordsworth during a pre-afforestation survey. In the north the rigs average 4m in width whilst to the south they are about 5m wide. Relict field boundaries, shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1963) are also visible amongst, and to the east of the cultivation. They cannot be traced beyond this though the boundary is evident. They are not visible at the SW. They possibly respect the earthen bank shown as extant on the existing OS map, since the rigs to the north average 4m in width whereas the rigs to the south average 5m in width. These rigs should be preserved as the only surviving features of the medieval/post-medieval farm. <1>
