Full Description

A single roomed building, situated about 100m from the shore of Loch Broom to the SE of Badrallach, was recorded during the course of a pre-afforestation survey undertaken by J Wordsworth. The building, which has been identified as the schoolhouse, measures 7m in length by 4m transversely and now stands derelict. Its asbestos roof is presumably a replacement for an earlier corrugated roof. It is surrounded by a zone of grassland between 5 and 10m in diameter. There may have been a wall defining this enriched zone though it is no longer evident. The roofless building shown on the current OS map is now only partly visible and its dimensions cannot be seen. Lying to the S and E of the schoolhouse, there is an enclosure defined by an earth and stone dyke, which measures 130m by 30m transversely. <1>
