Full Description

A rapid walk-over survey recorded the following site not recorded on the OS map:
NH 1410 9487 Two limekilns 3m diameter by 1.5m high.

On the southern slope of the wide strath above the Ullapool River, east of Ullapool, lie two lime kilns side by side, 8m apart. With entrances to the N, the interiors contain multiple tumbled vegetated stones. Dimensions as recorded in 1997. The area around the kilns consists of flat pastureland, with dotted birch trees. The well-used Ullapool Hillpath, a walker’s track, lies down the slope 30m to the NW.

Kiln 1 (W) centred on NH 14162 94886,
Kiln 2 centred on NH 14169 94890 (corrected positions). These are at variance with the 1997 NH 1410 9486.<1>
