The site was visited and photographed by C. Leslie (Forestry Commission, Dornoch) on 06/04/2001.

The site was visited and photographed by J Close-Brooks in 2002.

The site was Scheduled by Historic Scotland as a fort on 05/11/2003.

Following reassessment, the site was de-scheduled by Historic Environment Scotland with effect from 14/01/2025. The site comprises two features; a ditch and earth bank and a stone wall associated with the control of stock animals and dating to the post medieval period. The site had previously been identified as a later prehistoric fort but recent interpretation does not support this. The site is located along the western extent of Creag an Fhithich, a natural hill within Dounie Wood which overlooks the Dornoch Firth, at approximately 150m above sea level. <2>
