Blackmill farmstead is depicted as roofed with two or three outbuildings on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1874, sheet lxxxviii), and noted in the OS Name Book as 'a farmhouse one storey high with suitable offices, the whole are thatched and in fair repair' (ONB 1869). In addition the 1st edition depicts a sluice, footbridge and ford on and over the Allt a' Mharcaidh (Criche) adjacent to the farm. They are on the current edition of the OS 1:10000 map (1972).
