At least two turf- and stone-built shieling-huts, situated on low knolls on opposite sides of a small stream gully, were recorded during a pre-afforestation survey by Headland Archaeology in 1998. The larger structure survives as an incomplete wall-line of a 6m by 3m rectangular building partly overlying a 4m by 2.5m subrectangular foundation. The smaller structure survives as a 3m by 2m low subrectangular mound with a slight central hollow. <1>
The larger structure is faintly visible on aerial photography captured 1999-2001. <2>
These structures are not on the 1st or 2nd edition OS Maps.
