Full Description
NG20SE 65 2713 0457
A cottage and two ruinous rectangular buildings lie on the SE shore of the large tidal bay on the N side of Sanday. The cottage has mortared coursed rubble walls and a corrugated iron roof, and measures 12.55m from NNE to SSW by 3.55m overall. The two buildings lie to the NE and are linked by a U-shaped enclosure defined by a ruinous rubble wall. Both buildings are similar in size, the larger measuring 6.2m from NW to SE by 3.3m transversely within faced rubble walls 0.8m in thickness and up to 1m in height.
This arrangement matches the depiction of three roofed buildings and an enclosure at this location on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Argyllshire, 1881, sheet lix).
(Canna 94-96).
Visited by RCAHMS (ARG, IMS), 30 April 1994.
