Full Description

A survey of the archaeological and historic features was undertaken within Abernethy Forest Reserve for the RSPB in 1995.

This is a former croft building, under repair, built almost entirely of pink granite blocks, mortared with lime but recently re-pointed with cement. There is a large enclosure to the north and a drystane L-shaped enclosure of cruder construction abuts to the south. The single door faces to the east and there are windows showing signs of repair to the east and west walls. It appears to be a single storey building with a loft, and at present has a tin roof. It has been used as a barn or for storage. It appears to be the oldest standing building at Rynettin, since it is the only one present as a roofed building on the 1863 OS map. The L-shaped structure abutting it to the south may be the remains of the roofed byre shown on the 1863 OS map. <1>
