Full Description
Findspot NGR: NH 782822, 793903 and 795900.
Assorted metal objects found whilst metal detecting.
New site begun in field in Tain, close to site of medieval St. Duthac's Chapel.
Finds made by Mike Gallon, see assoc. docs. File for list of objects.
J Aitken : 19/12/00.
The 21 objects listed from Tain in the attached document described above (IMAG TT notification form) were submitted to Treasure Trove (TT 115/98) and allocated to Tain Museum. A letter from the finder said that they couldn't precisely locate the findspot. The six figure grid reference given on the IMAG form is thus likely marginal. <1>
In addition to the objects above, subsequent metal detecting at Kirksheath Farm, near St. Duthac's Chapel, has produced many more finds. This material has been submitted to Treasure Trove under the nos. TT 76/02 (a jaw harp) TT 81/02 (99 Medieval and later finds) and TT 33/04 (7 medieval and later finds). See attached TT artefact reports and catalogues for individual finds and photos. The material was all allocated to Tain Museum. <1> <2> <3> <4>
The grid reference given is marginal. The finds are likely to have been recovered near St, Duthac's Chapel from fields around Kirksheaf Farm, along the Kirksheaf Road. GW 28/01/20
