Inverness Museum Archive files contain a document which describes three items from Castlegate field, disposed to Inverness Museum as a result of Treasure Trove Case 373. These are: a copper alloy swivel ring (Acc. No. 1990.095.001) with zoomorphic terminals and thought to be of early medieval- medieval date; a copper alloy griffin head, thought to be an ornamental fitting for an unknown object (1990.095.002); a miniature lead axe, tentatively suggested to be of possible viking or later date (1990.095.003). <1>
The griffin headed object may be the decorated heraldic mount described above, however the date of the findspot for this does not match that suggested by the accession number of the griffin head described in the archive document <1>. These details need clarifying with IMAG. See also MHG14284.
