Full Description

The Grid Reference needs checked!
A potentially important wreck site was suggested by medieval finds by an experimental clam dredge which cuts a trench up to 0.75m deep in the seabed - a medieval sword hilt of the early 15th c. date.
Possible date lost - 1360-1450.
Material remains - sword pommel (photographed and held by skipper), scabbard (still in Royal Armouries) and concreted blade (the later destroyed); 3 sandstone 'ridgetiles'; various concentrations; butchered bone; also later stoneware jar and clay pipe from same area.
Further dredging is a potential threat to the site.
See assoc. docs. File.
