Full Description
Loch Barabhaig Survey site 18
JW 4/5/2001
The poorly preserved remains of four buildings were recorded on a SE facing ridge, c 220m W of Barabhaig sheepfold (MHG29956) by Wordsworth Archaeological Services in 2000. The buildings were all aligned approximately NNE - SSW and are partly obscured by bracken.
The first building, which is stituated at NG 69294 10178, is aligned NE - SW and measures 10m x 4m.
The second building lies 8m NNE and measures 7m x 3.5m.
The third building lies 5m NNE and measures 10m x 3.5m.
The fourth building lies a further 24m NNE of the fence and measures 7m x 3.5m.
It was suggested that these buildings may form a separate part of the pre-improvement township of Barabhaig (MHG29953).
It was recommended that all the building should be left unplanted in a linked open area with a buffer of 20m. <1>
These structures do not appear on the 1st or 2nd edition OS maps.
