Full Description
Eilean Choinich burial isle
This area was recorded by NOSAS in 2002 as part of an archaeological survey of Inner Loch Hourn.
Site: 394. An extensive ballast beach appears to more or less surround the burial isle. There are neat rows and piles of stones of various sizes dotted around several hectares of the sandy beach which stretches out into Barrisdale bay and the channel leading into the Inner Loch. It is understood from local anecdotal evidence that the dumping of ballast was controlled by the landowners. Boats were not allowed to dump ballast wherever they wanted. Much more research is required on this subject. <1>
