Full Description

Grouse Butt.
This 3m across x 2.5m deep, grouse butt is set in ground which is now very waterlogged. The peat walls are 1m high at the leading edge and are spread to up to 1m thick, and the entrance opens to 144 degrees.

(N.B. Another grouse butt, between this feature and Feature 241 (below), is marked on the OS 1:10000 scale map of 1962, but was not found during this survey. It is likely that it has been completely eroded by a combination of the elements and deer, and an extensive peat hag pool now occupies the area). <1>
