The Ground Truth project, a collaboration between Adrian Shine and an American team to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of his attempt on the water speed record, has located John Cobb's boat, Crusader. Sonar readings and visuals taken with an ROV have revealed a debris field extending from NH 515 258 to NH 518 258, and from NH 515 256 to NH 518 256 on the south side. Two isolated contacts would extend the debris field further to the east. The debris lies at a depth of 220m and is very deeply embedded. The contacts conform to the dimensions, shape and estimated position of Crusader. This information was passed to the Inverness Courier by the American team and appeared on the front page in the following Friday issue (12/7/2002) - for which see Assoc. Docs.
