Full Description

Remains of a sheep fold in Achany Wood, Inveran. Previously noted by Forestry staff, it was visited during a survey in 1998 by Wordsworth Archaeological services in advance of a proposed woodland planting scheme. (NOTE: all site NGRS supplied in the report are incorrect and have been corrected using comparison between the plan supplied in the report, available aerial photography, historic OS mapping and SEPA/Scottish Gov LiDAR data)

Site 7: NH 5711 9780 (corrected)
This sheepfold was shown in its present form in 1903 and has already been identified by the Forest Authority. It is rectangular in form measuring 40m north-south by 16m east-west. The 1874 survey showed a simpler version with a dyke possibly running towards Site 6 (see MHG63583). Recommendation: This site has already been partially preserved by the Forest Authority. <1>
