Full Description

A hut circle approximately 750 metres north-west of Kirkton.

A possible hut circle has been identified by P Swan at this location in 2003. Approx. 9m diameter.

Further information was submitted by Mr Swan in September 2008. A second possible hut circle has been identified to the north west of the first. It has a mean diameter of 8m with no obvious doorway. The first hut circle has a mean diameter of 10m with what appears to be a south-east facing doorway. <1> <2>

190920 841714 North of Kirkton 2 PS002: The hut circle was visited by A Welti and P Swan in 2009 as part of research for a dissertation on hut circles in Wester Ross. This was part of a degree course overseen by Aberdeen University. The circular HC sits on a platform in a gently sloping landscape. The structure is mostly submerged by moss grass and bracken. Average internal diameter is 8.8m, external diameter 14.50m. Double skinned wall thickness is 3m, max wall height is 0.6m. The possible entrance is to S, entrance width external is 0.9m, external is 0.7m. The length of the entrance passage is 4.5m and entrance terminals seem to be extended. This HC may be associated with PS003, North of Kirkton 1, which is sited 100m upslope (see MHG57755). <3> <4>
