Full Description

Centred at NH 549 361 on a W-facing slope is a settlement of eleven huts (A - H) with a field system.
Each hut is set into the slope and is defined by a stone wall spread to between c. 2.5m and c. 3.0m all round. Huts H, J, K and L are set into a steeper slope, accentuating the build-up of material on the downward side giving a platform effect. Only in huts A, B and C is the entrance evident. Hut dimensions are given between wall centres.
Hut A is oval, measuring c. 11.0m NNW-SSE by c. 9.5m. A gap in the W is probably the ill-defined entrance.
B is circular, measuring c. 11.5m in diameter. The hut and the entrance in the Se are mutilated.
C is oval, measuring c.14.0m NNE-SSW by c. 12.5m. The "simple" entrance in the SSW is c. 1.5m wide. Part of a field wall extends W from the W side of the entrance for c. 8.0m.
D is circular, measuring c. 15.0m in diameter. A clearance heap lies against the E and S arcs.
E is circular, measuring c. 8.5m in diameter. A lynchet joins the arc. F, the best defined, is oval, measuring c. 14.5m N-S by c. 12.5m. G is circular, measuring c. 14.5m in diameter. It is mutilated and the S arc is scarcely discernible.
H, also mutilated, is circular, measuring c. 12.5m in diameter.
J is circular, measuring c. 14.5m in diameter.
K is circular, measuring c. 13.0m in diameter.
L is circular, measuring c. 12.5m in diameter.
Two possible huts, visible on APs (Visible on RAF air photograph CPE. Scot. UK296: 3110-1), on the W side of the road, could not be located in dense afforestation. The field system is defined by stone clearance heaps, lynchets and an occasional wall, with the average plot measuring about 20.0m by 30.0m.
A, C and D surveyed at 1:2500. (Visited by OS (R D) 4 December 1964)
E, F, J, K and L: Surveyed at 1:10,000 scale.
