Full Description
Site recorded during a survey of the townships of North and South Screapadal plus the surrounding area carried out by the Association of Certificated Field Archaeologists (ACFA) in April 1998 as part of a continuing programme of recording the physical remains of human activity on the island of Raasay (Macdonald and Scott Wood 1997).
A sub-circular feature, 7.6m diameter E-W, truncated on the N-S axis to 6.5m by the road to Brochel, lies on a natural platform at 130m OD, above a boggy area and across the road from a small quarry. It is likely that this is feature 19 from ACFA's 1991 survey. The telephone pole has now gone with the lines safely underground but the "passing place" sign is still roughly in the centre of the circle. No entrance is visible. With several large earthfast stones visible around the circle but little obvious tumble inside or out apart from road building debris, this, could have been a completely robbed out kerb cairn or a hut circle. <1>
