Full Description

This bridge over the Allt Dubh Burn is of military construction. Originally it was 4.5m wide with a span of 1.8m. Having collapsed, the width which survives is just 1.8m. However, this is in a fairly complete state, despite the fact that some crumbling of the stonework of the abutments has occurred.
Visited by OS April 1979.
M Logie (Highland Council) 1997; NMRS MS 1007/6.

In 2009 Forestry Commission Scotland commissioned C Shepherd to undertake a survey and assessment of those parts of the 18th century Military Road network crossing the National Forest Estate in Inverness, Ross & Skye, Lochaber and North Highland Forest Districts.
During the survey of Inchnacardoch forest, this bridge was recorded and photographed. It was a single-spanned arched bridge which continued to carry a modern trackway on a recent timber superstructure. The arch seemed in good order, though some minor maintenance and vegetation clearance was recommended. Originally 4.8m wide with a span of 1.8m, the width had been reduced to barely 3m by the recent superstructure. <1>
