Full Description
Area ND 0535 4507. About midway between Sleach Water and Lochan Chairn Leith is a group of eleven shielings. They consist of low, poorly defined mounds with the out-lines of rectangular foundations on top, also poorly defined and varying in size from about 4m by 3m to 9m by 3.5m. There are one or two similar mounds in the area too poorly defined for survey. On the NE side of the group are the remains of two circular turf-banked sheepfolds, some 14m and 7m in diameter respectively; about 30m W of the larger sheepfold is a small oval enclosure of turf bank construction measuring about 10 by 5m. Some 120m E of this group are another seven shielings of the same character and varying from about 5 by 3 to 13 by 3.5m.
