Full Description
Memorial to the first church of Scotland missonary in India. Small stone structure, with edging around and written details. Photo - HAW 06/2005
Memorial to Rev. Donald Mitchell, Ardclach. It reads:
TO THE GLORY OF GOD
AND IN MEMORY OF
THE REV. DONALD MITCHELL, M.A.
BORN 1792. SON OF THE
PARISH MINISTER HERE.
HE WAS SCOTLAND'S FIRST
MISSIONARY TO INDIA

A MEMORIAL SIMILAR TO THIS MARKS HIS GRAVE AT
POLADPUR, INDIA, WHERE HE DIED 1823. TODAY THERE IS A
CHRISTIAN CHURCH IN THE EPROSARIUM THERE, MAINTAINED BY
THE MISSION TO LEPERS, AND SUPERVISED BY THE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND
