Full Description

Crofting township laid out on the low ground east of the Sand Burn. The present inhabited houses and new buildings are almost entirely along the road or along ‘Sand Passage’ running SW from the road. Along the east boundary, and spread across the area south of the croft lands are a number of buildings and enclosures probably representing a wider pre-improvement settlement. These survive mostly as low rubble footings, although some are more substantial. There are also a number of abandoned 19th century croft houses.
Wester Ross Project - Cathy Dagg, 23/3/04 <1>

A crofting township comprising fifty-nine roofed, one partially roofed, nineteen unroofed buildings and some enclosures is depicted on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Ross-shire 1881, sheet xix). Twenty-four roofed, two partially roofed, thirty-three unroofed buildings and some enclosures are shown on the current edition of the OS 1:10560 map (1969).
