The courthouse and former prison were listed at Category A in 1971. The gate piers are mentioned in the supporting listing description.

The building and its associated structures were reviewed following a site visit in 2015 as part of a Historic Scotland nationwide review of purpose-built court houses in 2014-16. It was proposed that the statutory address be amended. <2>

The statutory address was amended by Historic Environment Scotland with effect from 13/01/2017. <3>
