Full Description
NMRS Report: (04/06/2004)
NH43SE 80 4575 3035
The remains of this farmstead, which were overgrown with bracken on the date of visit, now stand within birch woodland. They comprise up to three buildings, the best preserved of which measures 13.5m from E to W by 3.5m transversely within walls reduced to grass-grown stony banks 0.3m high. A possible second building can be seen at its SE corner, and the third, to the N, has been reduced to little more than a platform.
Two buildings are depicted as roofed at this location on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Inverness-shire 1875, sheet xxix). The Name Book (ONB 1871) describes Badcaul as 'two small farm houses each one storey high thatched and in pretty good repair', a description which may include this farmstead (but see also NH43SE 60, URQ97 103-4). Both are shown as roofless on the 2nd edition of the map (Inverness-shire 1905, sheet xxix).
