Full Description
NMRS Report: (22/10/2004)
ND12NE 8009 unlocated
NLO: Dunbeath Bay [name centred ND 166 293].
Wick, 8th Mar., a nameboard, marked "FREIDIG", has been picked up at Dunbeath. It is about four feet long and the tops of the letters are broken off.
Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 19,619, London, Monday March 12 1877.
Wick, 24th Mar., the nameboard, marked "FREIDIG", picked up at Dunbeath on the 8th Mar., is supposed, from a communication received here from Norway, to have belonged to a vessel of that name which sailed from Riisoer in December last, and has not since arrived.
Source: Shipping Intelligence, LL, No. 19,632, London, Tuesday March 27 [1877].
NMRS, MS/829/70 (no. 4621).
The map sheet and quasi-administrative area assigned to this record are arbitrary, being derived from the reported location of discovery of wreckage. The vessel most probably foundered out at sea, possibly beyond Scottish waters.
The loss of this vessel is not cited by I G Whittaker (1998).
Information from RCAHMS (RJCM), 22 October 2004.
