Full Description
NMRS Report: (08/11/2005)
ND24SE 85 29693 40250 (centred)
What appear to be the remains of cultivation ridges are visible within rectangular peat-cuttings in open ground at the SE edge of the Moss of Whilk. The ridges measure about 1.25m in breadth by 0.15m in height and are arranged in plots displaying a variety of alignments.
Although the ridging appears to be restricted to the peat-cuttings, it is by no means certain whether it has been revealed by the removal of the overlying peat, or whether they have been formed as a result of the peat-cutting. The extent of the ridging is clearly visible on a vertical aerial photograph (OS: 22 87 282) taken in 1987.
