Full Description

NMRS Report: (09/11/2005)
ND24SE 95 28094 41583

This quarry, which is situated deep within Camster Forest, was probably opened in the late 1970s/early 1980s to provide gravel and stone for roads within the woodland. The quarry is not shown on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix) and it is not visible on an RAF vertical aerial photograph taken in 1946 (106G/SCOT/UK.76 print 4290). Roughly subrectangular on plan, the quarry measures 58m from N to S by 24m transversely and 4m in depth on the SSE. Some thick slabs of rock are widely strewn over its overgrown floor.
