Full Description

NMRS Report: (30/06/2005)
ND34SW 136 34609 43012

The remains of this farmstead, which comprise the roofless shell of a single range, are situated immediately E of the N end of Loch Sarclet. The range measures 19.6m from NW to SE by 5m transversely over clay-bonded drystone walls 0.6m in thickness. The central compartment of the range is a cottage with a central doorway and flanking windows in its SW side and a small central window in the NE. There are fireplaces in both ends. The NW compartment was probably a threshing barn, since it has opposed doorways on the SW and NE. At the opposite end of the range is a probable byre or stable, which has a single entrance in its SW side.
The range is depicted roofed on both the 1st and 2nd editions of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxx; 1907, sheet xxx).
