This disused quarry is situated in rough pasture 55m N of the ruins of Brownaban farmsteading ND34SW 114. Dug into what appears to have been an E-facing rock outcrop, the quarry measures 28m from NNW to SSE by 5m transversely and the exposed face is up to 2m high. The quarry is not depicted on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix; 1907, sheet xxix).
