NMRS Report: (23/05/2006 10:42:19)
ND34SW 396 ND 31671 40945 & ND 31673 40949

Two small, grass-grown quarries are situated on a steep, E-facing slope 330m SSW of Watenan farmsteading. The S pit (YARROWS04 330) measures about 3.5m from NW to SE by 3m transversely and 1.4m in depth on the W; the other (YARROWS04 329), which lies immediately N, measures about 3m in diameter by 1.2m in depth on the W. Both pits probably provided stone for the construction of the wall that runs up the slope immediately to the S. The quarries are not depicted on either the 1st or 2nd edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxx; 1907, sheet xxx).
