ND34NW 65 ND 32859 45091
The site of this filled in quarry is marked by grass- and weed-grown mound of earth and stones, measuring 42.5m from NW to SE by 7m transversely and up to 1m in height, which stands at the foot of a NE-facing scarp immediately N of the track leading SW from Thrumster House. The quarry, together with two small water-filled hollows to its NW, is shown within an area of rough pasture on the 1st edition of the OS 6-inch map (Caithness 1877, sheet xxix). It is annotated `Old Quarry' on the 2nd edition of the map, which does not show the smaller pits (Caithness 1907, sheet xxix). The quarry is depicted on the OS 1:10,000 map (1975), but it is not annotated.
