A programme of building recording and watching brief work was undertaken between September and December 2003 prior to and during the demolition of the town bakery. The buildings date from the early 19th century with later additions and alterations. No significant earlier archaeological deposits were revealed as the site had been heavily levelled in the late 19th century and the 1950s.
