Thurso, 1st Jan. `The MARYS, from Shields to Liverpool, was totally wrecked 1st instant, about 40 miles to the Westward of this place; crew saved.'

The Bay of Achininver is not noted as such on the 1999 edition of the OS 1:50,000 map. The name presumably applies to the small but clearly-defined inlet to the NE of the settlement of Achininver, which lies inland. This inlet is situated to the W of Tongue Bay.
