Full Description

NMRS Report: (08/11/2005)
NG53NE 148 5599 3517 (centred)

An enclosure and structure were recorded here during a field survey of the Suisnish area of Raasay by ACFA, who have conducted surveys on the island every year since 1995. The enclosure is sub-rectangular and measures 13m x 11m and is bounded to the N, W and S by a low turf and stone bank. Within this enclosure is a much later (thought to be early 20th century) stone building. This building measures 4.9m x 3.9m and has walls 0.6m thick. The walls are double-faced with a rubble core and stand to a maximum height of 1.7m, although the building is in a dangerous condition and collapsing. The E wall has a centrally-placed entrance. The remains of a wood and corrugated iron roof lie to one side and would have covered all or part of the structure. It is thought the building was a farm store or byre and not a dwelling house.
